But is it terminal?

If my computer didn’t offer that convenient calendar and day name utility on the taskbar, I would be lost. Going to my fridge calendar is useful, but only on a limited basis; it reminds me that 2 follows 3. It doesn’t help when I no longer have a sense of where in the weekly cycle I’ve landed. In fact, that might be the biggest result of the pandemic.

At the end of a long, dead end road

A few words to the lad that stole a pickup truck this afternoon, and then led the Mounties on a merry chase down a dead end road: plan your getaway! Or not. I actually think that the police should win, especially in cases of stupidity.

When I saw my saw

Look what the postal people brought me, today. My own, personal chainsaw! Now, before you get all worried about my plans to clear the forest, note that I did NOT use the term “mechanical”. This is something purchased, late at night, from the web. It requires that I provide all of the required power, using my own two arms. Got a clearer image yet? Well, in order to cut off one of my two arms, I would have to be extraordinarily maladept. Think of a long section of links, with handles at each end. I will make a guess that any enthusiasm for forestry will disappear after the first few minutes.

Shelter from future storms

I came across an interesting take on future refugee movement, today. From the former governor of California, no less. He points out that humanity has fled worse, seeking better, for most of history. And now, people are ready to consider Canada as a new homeland. No, this is not flight from political discord (although such a reason makes sense). Rather, look to the wildfires. They’re Getting more invasive, each year, triggered by global warming and the effects of population growth. And here in Canada, we have room, water, and cooler temperatures. Yes, there have been fires, in northern Alberta and BC. But, so far, the permanent tourist wave has been slow to pick up on our paradise as a destination. With someone as famous and credible as the former governor, that may change.

Admiring the completed mudding

Grey skies. No odour, though. The weather channel confirmed that the pall of smoke from the California wildfires has crossed the continent, and we should accept that as superior to burning woodland. I guess.

The end of my retail dream

Shortly before dawn, I received notice that my company was going out of business. Acquired by a hedge fund, in the south. And worse, my investment would never be recovered.

More replacement glass required

If you doubt my desire to put the pandemic behind me, consider this: today I visited three different stores (albeit all in the same mall). I practiced hygiene, with their mandatory hand sanitizer stations. I masked up, although nobody would have recognized me in any case. I didn’t dilly-dally, because I had already planned out my purchases. You see: proof that I’m not a risk taker, in these troubled times. Now, can we get a vaccine ready for folks, so that I can revert to my old, careless ways? Thank you.

New way to listen to tunes

Headed outside with the special brush, to spend some time with the special dog. At a rough calculation, he’s losing enough fur to keep all the neighbourhood squirrels in warm nests for the winter. Had to stop, because I fear we won’t recognize him (colour shift, toward the gray).

Impulsive menu choices

Imagine that! Suppertime, and in a sudden changeup I ignored the package of steak, opting instead for a bowl of fresh salad. Think of the possibility for my longer life, based on one simple meal.
