Stay home. Period.

We have uneven leadership, it seems. While many of us (the wise ones, just so you know) are content to isolate and avoid painful death, there are certain people with access to the bully pulpit who now believe we “need to get back to work”. The economy, apparently.

The task expands to fill the time available, apparently

The perfect storm? I know what that is. It’s when you hand a piece of technical equipment to someone who knows more than one way to get a job done, and then you watch the job consume the rest of the day, as a minimum.

Alarm reset mode

Some days are spent making the lights go out. No, not the regular kind; the alarms. Things started with the flashing smoke detector, this morning (with an accompanying loud periodic squeal). I tried a number of lessn-than-new batteries before getting in the car and heading for my general store. Yes, they had the correct size, in stock, and I could even try my new tap-n-go payment card. We’re all looking for ways to avoid that virus exposure.

A refreshing pause

This is the week where millions read long chapters of scripture; the historical (sic) sections, rather than the contemplative. I know, I’ve been there. Anyhow, one reference always left me wondering. That bit about the refreshing beverage, also known as vinegar. I’ve tasted vinegar (on my fries, thank you). Not exactly thirst-quenching. But, let me continue.

Weighty possibility

Starting this week, the federal government is opening the money faucets. Any one in need of assistance due to loss of wages brought on by the pandemic can apply. And so, I thought about this for a few minutes.

Loaflets

How long have the classrooms been empty? Well, long enough to drive the educators into the hands of the mad video producers. I had seen the static displays from my old school board. Here, we’ve upped the ante. From the school principal, in the big city, with his kids giving everybody a friendly wave, all the way to our nearest high school where the staff offered up dance videos to a singular background beat. Touching, if odd. Were we to reopen the doors tomorrow, there might be some red faces. Nothing to do with springtime sunburn…

My gassing game

Unexpected, those three  power bumps during the supper hour. Not enough to trip the transfer switch, but enough for me to reset clocks in the kitchen. In other words, a nuisance.

No masks for the allies

I have fond memories of a wall calendar that I used to have around. One of those that had been repurposed, from its original place in a bank, and that had to be adjusted manually on a daily basis; move the appropriate number and “day of the week” placards into view. You see, something like that tends to improve focus. Right now, many among us are incapable of telling someone else what day it is. Not our fault. With the requirement to stay inside and avoid the near occasions of social interaction, we don’t have to align our actions with such civilized ideas as “it is Friday, yet?”. What will happen, when order is restored, should be interesting.

Normalize a situation

Permit me to bask in the warm glow. This afternoon, I decided to “regularize” a license for a piece of software, after evaluating (in tiny increments) for an inordinately long time. I mean, seven years isn’t that long. The time flew by. It’s just that the software seems to work, every time. Now I can start things up without the shame screen. A win, all around.

Remaining on task

Where do the hours go? Here we are, almost nightfall. I did get up, early. Had a wonderful sunrise plan, which was thwarted by cloud cover. Maybe another day. And, yes, I did go back to bed; that’s just common sense. Anyhow, by the time I put things back on the rails, we were already up to noon.
