Created out of almost nothing

posted in environment |

After two full (and wonderful) summers, we’re ready for an upgrade. Standing around, trying to get that vitamin D, we admitted that some lawn furniture might be a good idea. But, what to buy? All of the different models we tried over a thirty year period had major flaws. Rust and a tendency to go airborne.

We might have found a solution, though. Outside one of the furniture stores in the city, they have an Adirondack chair. Too large for our needs, but a good design. Seems to tolerate Island winters; a plus. To our surprise, we learned (yesterday) that the behemoth is not made from wood.

(Forgive the image quality; Google Streetview wasn’t designed for the online shopper.)

The company has a website, where the trade off is explained. In return for 579 plastic milk containers, a standard  medium chair is “created out of almost nothing”. There doesn’t seem to be an invitation to bring your own jugs, but a single chair weighs in at just over 28 kg. Available in enough colours to make jellybeans blush. Did you notice the weight? Won’t go missing due to a strong southerly breeze. The firm markets a full line of products, which means we could have chairs AND a table… that’s important, when you consider moving from suntan position to “BBQ on plate”.

No splinters, no staining, no need to cover from the rain (or sleet or snow). A plus: the chairs are comfortable, based on a fifteen minute test drive. Delivered to our door.

We haven’t ordered, yet. Soon.
