Different fronts

posted in media |

Another double-feature day. Watching movies on my own schedule is fun, albeit not highly social as an activity. I prefer to think of it as educational, and choose my media in consequence.

First up, a lesson in business practices. We’ve all eaten at the Golden Arches, right? So, how did the company begin? Well, if I can rely on the script behind The Founder, as an exercise in working too hard for too little money. However, exposure to too much food seems to make certain people hungry…

I don’t have much personal experience with commerce, but it strikes me that the deal makers are able to detect possibilities for more, no matter which side of the Rubik’s cube is up. In the case of Mr. Kroc, he knew that there was more to the burger business than proper application of condiments.

My second choice, here in the improvised cinema, was Allied. A war movie, of sorts. I (again) don’t have much personal experience with warfare, but it seems that there are a multitude of fronts. Almost a study in politics. This time around, we were supposed to intuit the spies, and the spy catchers. No actual exchange of information, but with the proper tension, the wrongdoers will be caught out, and the happy ending will involve horses and hills. Or something similar. I won’t give this film any more than three stars, because I never understood what the goal might be (other than providing Brad Pitt with a pay stub). Good music, at least.
