Left hanging
Ordinarily, network TV offers up content that is light. So many of those series that pass by, forgotten other than in trivia questions a decade later. If you miss one week, no need to fret. The laugh track will be still in place, next time around. And then there are the series that you end up having to watch, in order to see just how far the producers will carry a story. Right now, I’m caught up in two of them: Riverdale and Cardinal.
The first draws the character list from a comic book that has been around for more than seventy-five years. I read the pulp paper version when the stories seemed to offer another facet to my education. I saw the TV cartoon version when I knew that premise was untrue. Shallow. Now, a new TV series with a whole twist to the story. Not going to give anything away, but the program gets better, week after week.
Next on the watch list, a detective series set in Northern Ontario, with Karine Vanasse as one of the main actors. I’ve watched most of her work through the years, and she continues to improve. Again, I’m left hanging by the storyline, and the week between episodes strikes me as too long. I’ll be ready for the next chapter in what has turned out to be a very gruesome storyline.
And in the movie list, I watched Hacksaw Ridge. One of the roughest war movies I’ve ever watched. Glad my generation skipped that sort of real life inspiring fiction.
