When the wireless is ephemeral

posted in computing, travel |

There is something very zen about waking to the sound of a good surf. Lay back, allow your ears to resonate with thousands of tiny subharmonic notes. White noise, in the original version. We had no rain overnight, but the campground is running on a low note right now, as the fairweather campers have all gone away. I feel like someone caught in a last man on earth movie.

We decided to profit from a quiet laundry room to put our wardrobes back in order, and also to clean up the “fridge box” where the ice is but a distant memory. We’ll have to start shopping for stuff tomorrow; in the meantime there’s enough potato chips and other junk food to keep us and the dog from three sites over in a state of malnourished bliss. As long as nobody drops in looking for a meal.

This vacation is turning into a tour of the restaurants: this evening is an extended supper at the new Rob Roy’s Country Kitchen in Scotchfort. Birthday for my cousin. The detail that struck us here was the size of the room, the tables, the chairs, the flatware, the dessert portions. Everything is done with an eye to keeping the hamfisted happy. I particularly want some of the Paderno flatware, which is as well-designed as the rest of their kitchen material. No danger of Gellerizing one of these spoons.

It’s polite to mention the food when discussing a restaurant. I do like their version of seafood chowder, and son #3 did get his chicken wrap heated upon request. That’s all, I’m done here for tonight.

Access to wireless is ephemeral this evening, as the tourist bureau in Souris needs to reset their router. A tourist from France mentioned a motel on the upper limits of the town, and we’re in a quiet corner of their parking lot right now. Reminds me; time to Plazes it.
