Oil and water don’t mix

posted in environment |

Turns out, I don’t need an app to tell me when things get loud. This afternoon, I decided to see if the new monitor speakers and subwoofer would play nicely together. Spent far too long trying to get my connectors “right”, before deciding to plunge in and turn up the sound. Took only seconds to get feedback. No, not the sine wave variety caused by A-B-A.

My tests were short. Sweet. Managed to peak things out at about 90 dB before settling back to the level of polite conversation. Unfortunately, sound conducts well (too well) through our floors, and I’ve been put on warning; that is, a warning will be required before any more sonic discharge. Kind of limits the creativity, when the only acceptable tones involve white noise and quiet surf. Forget the other possibilities, unless I’m alone (or with the dog). He doesn’t understand.

Not sure what to think about our new federal government deciding to ignore the “will of the people” and go with “the will of the oil barons”. Pipelines are back on the permitted list, despite the proof that oil and water don’t mix. Especially drinking water. And pristine ocean streams. The ‘liners are quick to admonish; without their liberty, we’ll all soon freeze in the cold and dark. And their ‘lines never burst, and if anything should happen, then the cleanup would be just like a walk in the park (did I mention National Park?).  I’m just a bystander, but the whole pre vs post election rhetoric is wrong on every level.
