A decided lack of visitors

posted in technology |

The phone rings, and the call display mentions that this an unknown caller. I’m in a polite mood, so I waited to see whether I was now immensely rich (or famous). Rather, this was an invitation to complete a survey. I responded with the important fact that I was on the no call list… “Oh, sorry, I’ll add you back to it”.  What?

Our visitor list for this evening remains as dismal as the weather. Two short folk, in masks. I guess I will have extra chocolate (and gummy bears) to get me through the early part of November.

Spent some time diagnosing a laptop from a local school (no screen display). It’s as if I never left the workforce (other than the change in pay scale). Certain tasks qualify as routine, with my time spent in “tech service”. Unfortunately, my mandate stops at diagnosis. No need to clear a work space, or find a screwdriver and a service manual. The machine will go back, to allow someone else that pleasure.

I’ve been reading user manuals and review from the various keyboard manufacturers and sellers. The details are blending together, but the obvious monetary limitation remains in place. How to add to my collection of musical toys, without receiving a call from a stranger to tell me I was now immensely rich. The famous I can do without.

Another month has run its course. No snow. I will have to contact the guy with the big plow before we get into the new season.
