Just a passerby

posted in environment, travel |

Another long day finishes with the flourish of a triumphant government. The final meeting of a longer year, where the budget passes with barely a wrinkle, the meal is delicious and the hired help (me) head home long before midnight. Bliss, because the weather is also triumphant. Warm without overstatement, clear, a hint of a coming moon. Enough to leave me ready for a walk in the old city among the night class, even if I no longer belong. I’m just an observer, on the road to replenish our coffee supply before heading back to all the comforts of home.

Summer brings out the bold and the beautiful in our city. All those who will live forever and dress in consequence. Youth before all else, and the shabby and despairing need not pass through the most touristic of cities in this country, especially within the walls. I have my pass; I know where the snow has gone. And I’m also not about to hang about; once scorned, twice shy.

I did see a girl with a spaniel at the bus stop. She halted, placed what first appeared to be her coat on the sidewalk, and the dog assumed its position. This showed all the signs of a well established routine, as the dog turned “paws up”, the girl grasped the four legs, spun the dog in the opposite direction, placed a set of straps in place around the furry body and presto! The dog now was in a snuggly (carrying pack), ready for a stealthy ride on public transit. Remarkable to see, because I can’t picture my own mutt going so gracefully into a harness, nor would I want to have to do the heavy lifting. Only small dogs need apply.

Good music for a late night out; Runrig and Traffic. I had the time necessary to listen to both albums, and the soundtrack of my evening was proper to my mood. Or is it the other way around? I’m not too clear on that part.
