Research in solo mode
Finally, some rain. Enough that I can look out, and point with conviction, while assuring others here that we are not in a period of drought. Actually, it saves me dragging a double length of hose around the yard, trying to spot any flower that might be at a risk of drying out and requiring storage in one of those special books they used to keep for specimen collections.
I had a fear that I’d miss a plant, and be forever blamed for the untimely death of a crocus. In passing, we had our first casualty in the seed wars today.
This was another day without incident, other than my preparation of a lovely roast of pork served with turnip pieces. I’d seen the recipe, and it struck me that my only root vegetable wasn’t going to cook itself. Therefore.
Part of the fun I have in “rooting for ancestors” is that I can do most of my research in solo mode. No need to interview people that are long gone from the planet. However, part of my “as yet undiscovered” family has roots across the ocean. I’ve joined one or two of the pertinent forums on FB, and asked some pointed questions. Go figure! People are sending me answers that I can’t substantiate. The most promising entry would involve my subscribing to a service, for “only two hundred and fifty-five euro”. At that price point, I want to meet the actual ancestors, not check out a blurred photo of a dusty register stored in the secret safe of some parish church. Just saying.
