Outside my comfort zone

posted in education |

This evening took me outside of my comfort zone. On the practical level, that meant trading in my around the house clothes for something closer to what I would have worn to work, back in the day. On the mental level, I had to sit at a head table and address a roomful of strangers. Again, not too far removed from “back in the day”, but this is my new life in my new community. So easy to suffer a pratfall.

Looking over the last few hours, things went well. I managed to read my text without “speaking in tongues”. My notes filled several pages of my scribbler, which means that the synopsis (to be prepared over the next day or so) should get past the opening sentence and subsequent writer’s block.

What else is new? Well, I tried those funny knobs on the side of the newer tripod, and the whole affair does get down to ground level. Could be useful, when I seek out the ideal angle of view in future.

Not much else, though. There’s still frost on the car windows, after dark. Not exactly summer, eh what?

Trying to decide when to put in the garden? See the above sentence. Still too cold for seedlings. We can relax for another few days. I’m going to have to construct those ground frames, eventually; will I drill holes, or strongarm the screws into place? Not sure. Maybe there’s a guide to such things out on the web. And since I have to store the project until deployment, every day missed is actually a benefit.
