A full-tilt circus view

posted in environment |

Happily I have a very flexible schedule, because a certain contractor is stretching the envelope. An email, before sunrise, to let me know “his men” were going to stop by today. Now, after sunset; no sign of them. Either they got lost on the long eastward road, or …

It doesn’t matter. At least I was up and ready when a pair of itinerant proselytes (I know, that’s a double affirmation of a problem) arrived at the front door. Full of praise for my pet squirrels (?) and a need to know if I had received the good news. Or as they see it, the Good News. A waste of capital letters. I quickly let them know that I had better than six decades of decoding under my belt, and I didn’t need to confuse them any further. Save the energy for other, more susceptible individuals.

We’re getting very close to planting season, and the rack with the “grow glow” tubes moved from its assembly point in the basement to a safe harbour in the garage. Complete with a timer for the fake sunshine, and a plastic cover to keep the heat in: we’re ready to sow. I’m a bit worried that there is no soil (or a close replacement for) prepared yet, but I guess you can buy “dirt in a bag” now. No need to shovel and stir, if I’m lucky. I will have to get the bed frames ready, though.

The view from our living room window is full-tilt circus. Jays, buzzing that squirrel with the fixation on the feeder. A rabbit/hare (not sure of the local term, yet) keeps crossing in the background, and the species count continues to rise for the two-foot gang. The snow cover is melting, and I think I saw a crocus tip this afternoon.
