On one hand, on the other
Sometimes our efforts, in whatever domain, seemed to be destined for zero-sum. A pity, because it removes value at both ends of a scale of measurement.
I spent today preparing a new laptop computer. Our working directive is to have a “model” and then to “clone”, which saves time and allows a level of conformity that fits with the classroom management plan in place. I believe the directive is valuable, because it provides “value-added” material to the student.
However, my efforts were reactive, because these new machines will replace others that have been stolen. Worse, as the day was almost over, another machine arrived from the same classroom, with the screen “value-added” by two new holes, punched in with a compass from a student’s mathematics set. As I mentioned, one hand is creating while the other hand is (place your own opposite to creating here).
