Biggest gusts yet

posted in Wx |

A new wind record, as the cups spun up to 68 kph this morning. There was little doubt that conditions were windy, when the dog refused to go outside and puddled in fear. Wait until later in the week, when we’re promised even better. Not exactly kite weather, and the sea was white, as far as the eye could see (not far, what with the driving rain, but that’s anothconditioner story).

Of course, my experiment with foam on that pesky downstairs window failed, miserably. There’s always another dry towel to stretch out (and later, wring out). A strip of shingle, caught up in the treeline reminded me to remind the contractor that all was not fun, at least for him. He answered promptly, with a promise to visit this week. The next storm might delay the excursion…

There was even a power bump. Enough to reset clocks and computers, but the generator didn’t have to spin up (too short an outage). I simply took it in stride, continuing with my household chores. When son #3 arrived home, before lunch, I also accepted that the dog would have more attention than usual. Fade to routine.

My (final, I hope) parcel from the bike tool vendor arrived. Even though all the duties were paid, I still had to produce a receipt for the truck driver; goes to show that the various branches of any large transport firm may fail to communicate, internally. And now, with all the snow gone (too early to say good riddance), I’m mentally preparing for the next round of nasty, the day after tomorrow.
