A day without stain

posted in computing, environment |

There; another software update completed without mishap. This new version of WordPress does something really well; it lets me know when new code is available, and the installation process is painless. Other than the time required to erase the older base (typically about thirty minutes using my FTP client), the transfers are simpler than before, and the database structure is stable. Let’s say it in colloquial terms: the new version rocks!

I had a busy day at work. There were machine transfers, a payroll print, preparation of examination period DVDs, some website maintenance and the odd (hysterically funny) calls – how do you explain to someone that a CAPS LOCK key does just that. Nothing broken, nothing “off the wall”. One more day, one more week. I’m lucky to have a job that I like.

While I was out purchasing the requisite software to complete our tax returns, son # 1 prepared supper and made sure that the home front stayed copacetic. Good stuff. We’re one player short, due to a school trip to Boston, but the boys are “makin’ do”. Even the dog accepts that we’re on a changed schedule. I will sit down and file my returns before the deadline. Promise!

I watched the animated film Madagascar this evening and I liked it. There’s a freedom in the humour of ‘toons that real people will never match. Why can’t we have Bugs Bunny as leader of the free world. It couldn’t hurt. Besides, getting away to a tropical beach is a pretty good fantasy.
