Shopping for essentials

posted in economy |

On the evening news, a story about a robbery on the Rock. No need to get into specifics, but the thieves took everything: furniture, gifts and the dog. Right there, I knew who was to blame. The Grinch.

This morning, I noticed odd tracks in the snow, out at the end of the driveway. Methinks the plow guy stopped by to mark his territory… no real removal, but the pile left by the road crew was now in the ditch. Let’s see what the score is, ninety days from now.

After hanging around here all afternoon, we decided on an impulse run to the big city. A chance to deposit funds in the bank, and then go shopping for essentials. Ink for the printer, a new water filter (reflex to recent reflux), some muffin trays. I learned that we won’t be able to purchase replacement fondue forks at the usual box stores. And, a small triumph. I found more Eno in a pharmacy.

Foggy out there, on the roads. Not sure if I prefer the variance on visibility from the vapours, or the star trails when you head off through heavy snow showers. Not a lot of difference, technically.

One sign of our preparation to go all tasty bits this season: two bags of swag from M&M. Yes! I abstained from the capital sin of bacon-wrapped scallops, but those pans of lasagna and cabbage roll will make a welcome supper when we tire of too much turkey. And that about sums up the day/night here.
