The old frozen fowl routine

posted in food |

Time to go back to the optometrist. Not the one I visited a couple of years back, though. (Had to get new frames in a rush, and that meant replacement lenses). Here we are, and my main eye now looks through a pale haze of flaking antireflection coating. No, I’m going to return to the company that gets it right. “Shop local; it works for me”.

Went hunting for a turkey, given the season. Found some. Yes, frozen solid. Now doing that put it in the fridge and hope it thaws before the middle of next week routine. If it doesn’t, we’ll go for plan B, and save the fowl for later. This too, came from that “Shop local; it works for me” slogan.

Tried making my very first apple pie today. OK, I did it with the easy step of purchasing frozen pie shells, because I understand that pastry is beyond my Basic kitchen training, but I did prepare the apples and commit to the oven and the cooling period (no window sills involved). The Mk I version is in the refrigerator, and I might get into a dessert frenzy before bedtime. Apples qualify as health food.

Advance polls are open for the next few days, but I think I’ll wait and see if something magical happens between now and the nineteenth. The longest campaign in modern history was supposed to clarify things. All it did was confirm that we really have a lot of poor choices, and too many voters who lack education about the causes. Not good.
