Road trip (for the others)
If I leave the lights off, and sit quietly, I can pretend that I’m in a deep mine. It really is dark around here, in the absence of lamps and moonlight. Enough to make me glad there are little glowbulbs in strategic corners of the house. Early this morning, the others hit the road; off to the gala opening of a microbrewery involving son #2. Now, that doesn’t happen very often. The dog and I are officially in charge of the house. We can choose what to watch (or not) on TV, and eat wise portions of junk food. Chat (for hours) on Skype with “the old gang”, realizing that we are old. No judgement intended; simply an observation.
Yesterday, the final of our three health cards arrived in the mail. One month later than predicted, but we’re models of good living (except for my junk food lapses…) Seriously, having gone for 120 days without access to coverage, I’m glad that the legal requirements are finally met. We’re also on the famous waiting list for a family physician.
This morning, round two of my pork shoulder preparations. Four hours on a slow boil, followed by an hour in the oven after a mustard smother. Now I have enough cheap protein to get me through until the return of the others. Must add some veggies into the diet, just because.
Heavy rains up west, with the expected road washouts. Here, 25 mm and no signs of damage to the world. Keep the lawn green for another while. The next hurricane is still pointed this way, but that’s for another day.
