Dust be gone

posted in technology |

Who knew that some day I’d have my own vacuum collection? Not the “beyond the earth”, lacking in air vacuum. No, more like the “too much dust around here” kind of vacuum. I’ll try to explain.

In the beginning, a clean house meant that a broom was close by. I’m not a big fan of the whisk it away style of cleaning. And so, when my parents (and many others of their generation) fell for the pat lines of the traveling salesman, and bought the whole kit including a padded ottoman, keeping the house clean involved some pretty advanced technology. Came in a form similar to this…

ELECTROLUX

The Buck Rogers experience was integral.

I kept “ours” repaired, over the years, but with the installation of a central vac (try to picture pipes in the walls, a canister in the basement, and a really long hose), the space age got less and less use. Which leads us to the encounter of the third type.

DYSONNoisy. Has a hose that you can’t see here, but have to imagine. Did I mention noisy? And it doesn’t like “fine” dust. Think gypsum powder. Or watery episodes.

And so, this afternoon, I headed out in the rain and added yet another gadget to the stable of clean gadgets. Comes with filters. Many kinds of filters. Does wet and dry, although I haven’t spilled any test liquid, yet. Big enough to be noticed. And yes, noisy. Seems to be a common characteristic of all of the gadgets, broom excluded. Looks like this.

SHOP-VACTurn them all on at the same time and the racket is stupendous.
