No longer fooled by the fairy tale

posted in politics |

I’m finally old enough to stop believing in one of the major myths. Much bigger than any of the ones with benevolent gift bestowers; the bunnies and flying elk. No, I am ready to forego the “big one” which presents the world as an us vs them. Forget the flags, or songs that make people stand (for no rational reason).

I watched a movie, based partially on a novel by a spy seller. A Most Wanted Man. As it turns out, the us vs them (or spy vs spy) model doesn’t offer much of moral value. Better that we stop hoping for leadership that works on our behalf; if it happens, it’s an accident.

The second round of televised pre-election debates, from the Island, was available late this afternoon. Another ninety minutes of polite conversation, bereft of content. The results will be demonstrated, expensively, two days hence. I’m not eligible to vote, but I’ll live with the fallout for the next few years.

And, there won’t be anything that is from the moral high ground. Politics serves the political class, first. The rest of us will continue to hand over more money than we spend to make ourselves comfortable. The red vs blue vs orange vs green sweaters are nothing more than subterfuge, an attempt to fake us into feeling involved.

I’m too old to believe in fairy tales.

Found my branch trimming tool and removed more branches from the linden. Better to cut it back than to dodge twigs for another season. I should have forced the tree to grow high when I had the chance.
