Cast a long shadow
“…it’s always February 2nd, and I can’t do anything about it” – Phil. Then be thankful it’s just a movie, and watch it (again).
Somewhere in North America, a real groundhog may have decided to forage this morning. The sun may (or may not) have been shining, but it doesn’t matter. For us, winter will continue; the question isn’t about how many weeks remain. We’re all going to have to shovel piles of precipitation before things improve. Just part of the ticket price.
For me, today did have a difference. The contractor forwarded a few digipics, and my garage and kitchen moved from possibly to real. The ceramic tiles are lain in, and the electricity makes things go round, or on, or whatever. “Not too much longer” is now a realistic premise.
The neighbour with the nice stove stopped in this evening. Getting that beast installed took patience, what with conflicting information from “the trades”. Might need a sprinkler, might not. Might require special gas mains, might not. Better pots and pans? Definitely. I probably knew that a good hot flame required something robust, but learning that a Corning casserole could split due to thermal shock becomes “real” when one knows those involved.
And so, I’m back to Candlemas. Forget the rodent, and consider the chances of a blessing with a warped candle as a way of keeping the throat scratchiness at bay.
And now I should go and check the mail. Just in case I won a lottery, or got my summons to the Senate. Anything is possible.
