Epic reports

posted in Wx |

Life in capital letters! Thank you, CNN. For the last half hour, my adrenalin levels have risen to epic levels, as you give me news about that storm that hasn’t hit. Yet. But we are prepared, in large part to your look into the future.

My family knows that I’m a weather junkie. Tell me that a system… no, strike that… a storm system is building and I’m hooked on your every word. Now, imagine the excitement, knowing that New York City has decided to outlaw automobiles from just before midnight. Knowing that subway cars will be hidden out of sight (wait; aren’t they already underground?). A sighting of six salt trucks, in a row!

OK. Reality check. A winter storm isn’t really new. I’ve been in the eye of some good ones, going back to a time before Sputnik. The snow falls, travel is lagged, summer comes. Cyclic. What is fun is watching the media whip up anticipation. Back in the days of the daily newspaper, ink was expensive. The intrepid journalist reported on what had actually happened. Now, the TV stations are incapable of counting words. More! More!

I won’t plan any road trip for tomorrow. Not because of the weather; I really have no place I’d rather be. Instead, I’ll watch “Storm of the Century!”; whether or not there is actual weather, the media has to keep me glued to the tube, so I’m in for exciting times.

And, this time around, no need to shovel after the fact. That makes the whole show even more entertaining. Pass those stormchips!
