Plunged into an earlier era

posted in travel |

The network is down. A whole hotel, plunged back into an earlier era, while somewhere… Yes, the technical people have been called, and they’re working on the problem… I speak from experience; that’s the only answer you can give, while you spin and touch your favourite good luck charm and wonder if there are any goats available for sacrifice.

Of course, I’m writhing (an odd form of writing) offline, fully confident that service will be restored. If not, then the dog and I will go for a ride, to a better part of town. Where wifi is available, along with several interesting flavours of ice cream.
Today, I returned to the little coffee roasting shop, and their grinder was available. Looked a lot like the one I had priced, last winter. Maybe next winter? Anyhow, given that the total number of people who get fresh grind locally is limited, it only required a mention of “AeroPress” to establish my bona-fides and receive a client loyalty card. If I return four more times, there’s a freebie involved.

Parked on campus (as I have done frequently over the last two weeks), but this time a patrol car parked within kickme distance. A not-so-subtle hint to either pay the meter tax or move elsewhere. I moved.

The dog and I also went for a walk in the woods. The local park is a marvel, and when I posted a quick pic to the intertubes, the feedback was enthusiastic and rapid. My own feeling was that the cellphone image was ordinary, but “the eye of the beholder” and all that jazziness.

Tomorrow, we return to life outside the comfort of these four walls. Back to a more primitive existence, where rain is not regarded kindly. I’ll have to pack all the luggage into that limited space before lunch time. The afternoon… more on that tomorrow.
