Enthusiastic vegetation

posted in travel |

Today has been officially designated as a “vacation day” so we decided to leave city limits and see where the road would go.

First stop, a fish and chip basket at Rick’s, in St. Peter’s Bay. The food is consistently good, year after year. We had comfortable seats, out on the deck, and our wait was short. The only disappointment: no chowder. Not yet ready. And there’s the price you pay for “real food” in a prepared, packaged world. The kitchen takes the time it needs…

Once we had finished, a quick jaunt over to the campground. Our arrival date is still a week away, but this is home, and a welcoming hug is reason enough to just drop by. Our site awaits.

Next, a short trip down the coast to our place. The trees are growing quickly; it will almost be a shame to bulldoze such enthusiastic vegetation. Almost. When I compare our spot at the top to the other lots down lagoon-side…

The vineyard down the road is now “in production”. We stopped by for a tasting session and a chance to meet the couple who actually cultivate. Lots of effort for too little recognition. I learned about the dangers of a de-hiller, hail and absentee landowners.

And with a trip to the light, and admiration of a friend’s new home, we headed back to our metropolitan hideaway. Back to regular programming in the morning. I’ll have to think up new ways to waste the week. I’ll manage. Practiced perfection.
