The bear and the cupcakes

posted in technology |

Soon the sun will set. There is still a side of lawn to mow, and the pool ladder is high and dry. So, this is what being on holidays is like? Seems much the same as real life.

Not completely fair; the groceries are home (we have fat hot dogs, five to the pack) and enough milk to get through the evening. Ten litres, if you are counting. On TV, old Due South reruns (I think of it as training wheels for Republic of Doyle). The dog has a fake bone, which he still finds interesting (no accounting for tastes). I spent the valuable part of the afternoon on Skype (which justifies paragraph one).

As a reaction based on fear (of impending overcharges), our internet plan received an upgrade this morning. Of course, oversell is the game, and I came back to find the phone rep trying to convince us their firm could handle our mobile telephone needs – on the Island. Outside of their defined territory, but they trade chips with other chip vendors, and were ready to do us proud. Not so fast.

I suspect that a service call from a neighbouring time zone receives more than delayed service. I’ll take my chances with a local vendor, when the time comes.

Funny news story from the day came in from Alaska, where “a bear fell through the skylight and ate all the cupcakes”. Wasted on a news story; that would make a good plot for a children’s book. Hmmm. Change bear to coyote, throw in some Anne of Green Gables scenery and profit.
