Plenty of ice
Took a few minutes, just now, to watch the final end in a Briar matchup. That’s curling talk. Seems that there are many people who have mastered the art of placing stones in particular places. After throwing/sliding those stones the length of the rink! And the rest of us can barely walk on the frozen surface of their world.
Speaking of ice, there’s enough to go around. For everybody. The five Great Lakes are frozen right now. Rare enough to get news time. And yes, it’s been cold, but this is exceptional. There are some downsides (quite apart from the poor walking). Ships move slowly in packed ice. They require expensive escort icebreakers, and extra fuel, and more time to get where we want them to go. The result? Everything will cost more this spring.
The transport cost shouldn’t be a factor in “everything”, but that’s just the way the finely tuned business mind works. Mark my words.
I’ve started another big consideration in my life. Realtors. We’re going to need the service, within the next year, and I know nothing about their business model (other than the signs that “stand out” on lawns across the city). There’s a game going on here, where we will pay a lot of money for one of those signs, all the while filled with hope that the sign will disappear quickly. I don’t want a busload of strangers traipsing through, so I’m going to have to find someone in my small circle of acquaintances that needs my house. Not just any house. My house. Lots to think about.
