ECMA, Take Two
There’s something delightful about a live performance, even when it is interrupted every few minutes with a breath mint announcement. I just finished watching the ECMA (East Coast Music Awards) on CBC… if you don’t know the CBC, well…
Did my level best to archive the show; brand new video cassette that had been overcharged at the local pharmacy while waiting for my city bus back to the “‘burbs”, which required the head cashier to complete paperwork and check my identity to refund the owed $1.13 before I could head off to miss my bus.
Set the VCR up by borrowing batteries from one remote control to load the other which allowed setting tape speed.
Paused during as many of the breath mint commercials as possible.
And, found that the VCR was set to the wrong channel for recording, so back to square one.
Happily, the whole live performance will start again in sixty minutes, which will make it a “non-live performance”, I guess. I’ve corrected all the above mechanical errors, and this time I’m going to go to bed and let the breath mint reminders become part of my archives.
When I finally try to play the tape again in a few years, will they still have that “fresh, minty” taste?
