Not missing, exactly

posted in technology |

Early morning, in the magazine shop. I know, I could have gone for a high calorie, low nutrition fast food breakfast, but I prefer to check out the arrivals from around the globe at a local media market. In and out, five minutes top, catch the next bus in my parade. Almost every week, weather permitting. Anyhow, the tune (the owner has a penchant for classical material) was familiar, but without lyrics I’m lost at remembering things. Pull out the smart phone, test a few seconds, move on once identified.

For the record, today the Arabesque No. 1 by Debussy, (performed by Marsalis) was the mystery song.

Good start to the morning, nevertheless. On to the office, where I boxed and shipped out the final allotment of the “Laptops For Teachers 2014” program. Done, a day early. The only “bad moment” was that my total count came up one short. Not good! I was able to pull a unit from inventory and get the stuff to the loading dock on time, but I was not at ease. We’ve kept the computers under lock and key at every step. Found the original shipping manifest, and checked all 96 serial numbers against my tag list. One stuck out as “not processed”, but I knew that already. Recheck the shelves, recheck the other storage areas. Look under desks in our area. Pull up the repair and RMA requests. Nothing.

I still had fifty empty boxes to check, but a pile of document “baggies” in a box drew me close. In the bottom of the box… one brand new computer.  The moment was sublime.
