Reponse to a cold nose

posted in economy |

My unusual treat for the holiday season: after getting up at 07h00 to feed the dog (he puts a cold nose between my shoulder blades to remind me of the hour), I returned to bed until after noon. Complete change in routine, that won’t be repeated for many months.

Tonight, I paid an unusual bill. About nine years ago, we struck a deal with the man who delivers the daily newspaper. He feared our dog, and we usually had to plan for cash on hand. The agreement was that he would call, once a month. Not often enough to excite the dog, and not unreasonable for him, given that this was his retirement vocation. This was the final visit. He’s retiring, again. Even the dog (the third to bear responsibility for barking at the moon and the journal arrival) has learned to be courteous, although the murmured conversations before dawn seemed whimsical. I’m sorry to know that he won’t be stopping by, any more.

Heading into a weekend. Enough time to find the alarm clock, and the thermos, and the bus pass before Monday morning.

Probably the final shot from a firm that once owned the smart phone market. Blackberry is suing a firm that markets a case for iPhones. The thing that sets the firm apart? It adds a real keyboard to Apple product, and this seems to excite the hapless executives in Waterloo. Someone should let them know that it’s “too little, too late”, and that everyone else knows it.
