Preparing to placekick

posted in humour |

Six months since the last time, a heartfelt appeal, what else could I do? I cleaned up my cubicle in time for the holidays. Not such a big deal, really. After I hid the seven (obsolete, non-working, surplus to our cause) laptops in a big box under the wing of my desk, the rest took only minutes. Recycle some old magazines. Move the useful stuff into a corner. Square up the log pad and pen. Change the countdown calendar page.

Actually, that was important. I’ve rolled through the last six months with a clear goal. To get within kicking distance of the goalposts. Leaving the cubicle behind. I’m now down to “less than a year” to run on my life sentence, and the plan to reformat my hard drive and eat the last of the canned soup is rational. With that, I took my permission to leave “five minutes early” and caught a bus to the burbs.

The snow keeps falling, but the plow has, so far, avoided backfilling the driveway. Kindness? Tomorrow, I’ll spurge on goodies over at M&M, and try to find a frozen bird (in case a home-cooked meal is demanded).

Have you ever wished that you’d get an invitation to play on The Price Is Right? Part of the preparation is to guess the price of stuff around you, and then see if the price on the invoice is close. Today: rubber mats that we use in the doorway at work. My guess: $45. The real cost: $120. Just in case, I won’t get fooled on that one.
