Avoiding the blink reflex

posted in technology |

With one irritated eye, my choices are limited. Either I keep the eye closed, which works but leaves others questioning my aim, or I can blink. Blinking hurts, so I try to lengthen the period. The other eye gets dry and blurs. Vicious cycle. Maybe I’ll skip life this evening and go straight to sleep.

In the spin down to the holiday period, we’re showing a decided aversion to adversity (at work). The phone doesn’t rig: good. Nobody stops by with a problem: better. A storm: best (although it’s not happening. My “showing’ of the webcam from the bridge doesn’t amuse the others. They ask why I’m so keen to know about nasty weather on the Island. Vicarious living? In a world where snow days are golden, three days elsewhere makes our “cold but clear” seem like a cruel joke.

At home, battery packs to recharge cellphones have turned into an “issue”. The company that provides quality material for a fair price point has decided not to ship their Lightning connected units to Canada. Something about danger of meltdown, etc. I don’t get it. In an age when China can put a robot on the moon, surely a battery can be shipped across that long, undefended border.

The Feds have decided to rethink (another) stupid decision. About a year ago, the announcement that Coast Guard rescue services would be dispatched from Halifax, was not well understood around here. I mean, a language barrier is still a barrier, no matter how you spin it. Today, the minister (irresponsible) announced that the move was cancelled. Finally something we can all understand.
