Ready to start a clone session

Watching the truck approach the loading bay, all that was on my mind was that this was going to be a lot of lugging. Two hundred and twenty-five kilograms of brand new laptop computers. Mine for as long as I require to get the “imaging” completed, and then the order will head out to make four score teachers happier. Perhaps not in time for Christmas, but my holiday spirit isn’t as shiny and bright as it used to be. Tarnished.

With the help of a handcart (and nobody else), I moved the precious load into secure storage, and checked the serial numbers against the manifest. Not bad; quantity right on the dot and serial numbers off by about three percent. Warranty requirements. By lunchtime, the initial image was downloading. By quitting time, all of the assorted drive patches and updates were applied, and I transferred the sample machine off to someone else for creation of our network image. Progress.

Not that the day was without interruption. Someone with a “stone dead” laptop, that required undoing about fifteen screws to get the battery out. Outlier. No more like that to be ordered. At least the consultant left for the two week tour with an operational machine (although I do have some extra screws to put back in on a quieter day). Friday should be a quiet day, but there was also a VC underway, and someone else why had managed to share a glass of wine with a laptop. No serious damage, but everything is “just a moment away”, as the song goes.
