Temporary bridge fix

posted in environment |

The local music store has closed for the day, and I didn’t purchase any low brass. Or anything else. Remarkable restraint. I could have found (yet) another way to annoy the neighbours.

Instead, I spent the afternoon avoiding other jobs. Cleaning the basement? Not today. Fixing up little bumps and scratches. Not today. I did watch some shows on the Oasis channel, which is in an unlocked preview mode right now. I’m willing to give up those stations that present soccer matches from Europe, 24/7 in exchange, if the cable company is willing.

The Gabaldon books are about to be turned into TV content. Filming started this week, and there are interviews with the director and author, available on YouTube. Not sure how you handle anything so large (there are a whole boatload of characters in the series), but the director seems confident. Something to keep watch for, a year or two down the way.

Up river, in Montreal, one of the major bridges was closed overnight. While the rest of the city slept, a team of highly motivated workers placed a 75T beam under part of the structure to delay the crack that seems to be spreading. Scary stuff. Bridges don’t fall up. This one is obviously in bad straits, and it’s time to start digging a tunnel to replace the necessary traffic flow. The city has other tunnels; I’d forget any talk about a new bridge and start the boring ASAP. Otherwise, getting on and off the island will take longer than anyone wants to contemplate.
