Completing another course
As I work through the final set of videos for my current MOOC, I’m forced to admit that I learned something today. Among all the bad efforts attached to playing the theremin, there are actually a small number of musicians that can coax a tune out of one. Here’s an example: Clara Rockmore. Despite her patronym, this is not an example of classic rock..,
I’m looking forward to completing this course. I have decided not to submit the final assignment; my pass is already assured, and my effort at programming in Python will add nothing to the record. Better to “fold my cards” and wait for the next course to begin. Tomorrow. This time around, I’m going to learn something about interpretation of classical music, in a course entitled “Western Music History through Performance”. finally, something based on proven effort instead of mathematical analysis.
Had a chance to hold a galaxy S4 this afternoon. You may remember that I have just completed my first year as the proud co-owner of an S3. I don’t feel a pressing need to upgrade, just yet (a good thing, as I have two more years to run on the contract). When I read about the upgrade fever that many phone users suffer from, I am glad that my level of restraint is high.
However, I do look at ham radio transceivers, and if I won the lottery (I’m not a player), I could see something newer and shinier on the bench. So many possibilities. Perhapss it is time to check out the ads; somebody must have a Morse key that would be an added value in my collection.
