Authentic flavour

posted in food |

It uncanny! Yesterday, I mentioned my pool as a test basin for a certain red kayak. Today, the boat looks to be sporting a sold sign.  I wonder if I can do that, again?

Little matter. For supper, we sent me for Thai. An article in the newspaper vaunting the local roots of the franchise had nothing to do with it. But I wonder… when we get “ethnic” food from a chain restaurant, would the flavour trick someone from the target group. Would someone from Greece actually eat those stuffed grape leaf thingies? Or would I find a tasty chick wrap in Damascus? Do the folk in Mumbai make curried pork the way I do? Do they even eat pork? So many questions.

A new hire in our office. Too early to tell if we have a new team player (the last guy stayed for three days before getting a better offer). At least I had the updates to his computer ready in time, and the phone rang on cue.  I’m out of the office, tomorrow and part of Wednesday so if the stay is as short as the predecessor…

In financial/political news, one of the four senators at the core of an expense imbroglio has decided to repay the contested amount in full, drop his court protest and walk away. The pension, however, will be paid out. If he lives the “expected” number of years, a minimum of $5 million. So be it. If one government figurehead protests a single cent of the Canada Pension Plan benefits owed to the rank and file, may a lightning bolt strike. Hard.
