A lifetime of achievement

The ECMA show was this evening; time-shifted to a Monday to allow for the Olympic steamroller to pass. Thankfully, the musicians don’t have “real jobs” so they could hang around ‘town for another day.

I am always surprised at how the cameras make a venue seem so large. Tonight, the sound left something to be desired (dropouts, fuzz, etc. do not impress me any more). But, the performances were as good as I’d hoped.

Lenny Gallant sounds better with each year. He is well on the road to a Lightfoot kind of voice. The new kids out of PEI, the ‘Chucky Danger Band’ had the pop thing down tight. Sam the Record Man waxed eloquently on the career of Sarah McLachlan, even though I didn’t see her.

Natalie MacMaster brought tears to my eyes with her tribute to “Buddy”. 81 years young, seven decades on the fiddle and bow, and matching his niece note for note. Time to get the new CD ordered…
