Read the Dummies book, first

posted in technology |

Caught someone making a movie with their DSLR.  I could do that, if I had one of those nifty shoulder mount rigs. How many others have fallen prey to the illusion that gear replaces talent? You can’t count that high? Shame on you, for not listening in Grade One arithmetic class. I have to be very careful about throwing money after whims. I know nothing about videography. Buying a gadget won’t change that. Perhaps a Dummies book or three.

This was the final day before a long weekend, and the hours were especially robust. Might have had something to do with fewer needy voices than usual, but I found myself watching my clock more than I should. Bad habits start with small things.

Still trying to transfer ALL my data from one machine to another, and each time I think the job is done I discover yet another pocket of files that should (probably) be transferred. Sitting with an external adapter hooked up, so that the other drive D can be cloned is a sad commentary on my data retention disorder.

Working through an interesting book: 419 by Will Ferguson. CanCon. Someone who received one spam message too many promising millions from a  fictitious official in ‘419’ country, and decided to play the whole thing into a novel. Other than the strange formatting (a chapter can vary from two lines to two pages), the book is turning out to be a good read. Finally, a parable to offer the email innocents of the world (or the workplace). Remember, if it sound too good to be true, it probably is (or it is official policy of our current federal government).
