Need to nap

posted in computing |

Pardon my yawn. The “need to nap” is in conflict with the “but you’re at work” thing, and my desk is not suited to sleep. Ergonomics. The ongoing request for a hammock in the server room has been ignored by those higher up on the pay scale, for years now. Actually, I’m ready for action, should the need arise.

Someone was talking about the need to wean one’s self away from a full time work role. Progressive retirement, they called it. A willingness to accept less money for the same responsibility. Those with a sports bent use terms like “taking one for the team”. I prefer my label: stupidity. If current trends continue, I’ll go right along at 100% until Day Zero. And then, I’ll go home and nap. The furniture is better designed. Ergonomics, someone else said.

Trying to get a plan in place for supper. Do I want leftovers, or not?

More study required. The new laptop has a “mSATA SSD”, meant to provide cache for the hard drive. If the hard drive is in RAID mode. Mine isn’t. I have the option of starting the process over again (losing several days of setup and transfer), or going through dozens of pages of forum spill. Others claim that a simple registry hack is all that is required. I’m less gullible than that. If I was to put one of the new drives into “bay 01” and reformat according to standard rules, I’d lose several days of effort, but it might be worth it. The other machine is still in service, and I’d end up with a faster machine. This is Tuesday.
