How to hang a handle

posted in technology |

On my list of jobs that are done only when the need arises, I’m going to include “putting the door handle back on the refrigerator”. No sense trying to figure out why this job comes along every year or two. If we didn’t eat cold stuff.

Technically  it’s a design flaw. The model of icebox is designed to permit the owner to swap the way the door swings, according to the predisposition of the kitchen. I’ve never actually done it; changing the hinge placement is something for a long, lonely afternoon in autumn. However… the door handle gets loose over time, and then I have to find the right size of screwdriver, remove the handle completely, loosen four lag screws, place the side covers into their sockets, fasten the lag screws, and rehang the handle (which also has four screws). Lots of work for not much gain (although opening a refrigerator with a screwdriver is worse. Been there, done it).

That browser loss from yesterday (an inadvertent update click) turned into a resinstall and reconfigure morning. The user didn’t remember what had been lost; only that work was now much harder than before. My task is (as usual) to diminish the “pain and suffering”. Part of it, today. Tomorrow, a hasty list to work on. This is a short week.

The second drive is now in place in the new (not yet named) laptop. The data set is copying, and I realize that I have to think up a name. One possibility is Radiohead (nothing to do with the eponymous group).
