Planning homework (not housework)

posted in education |

Good thing that our office telephones ring occasionally. Not from the point of “I sure wish someone would call”,  but from the point of “Oh, someone in another cubicle is speaking.” Quiet workplace. No excitement. No shouting at one another. Not even an occasional POS (public outburst of song). Almost too professional. Almost a textbook example of boring.

Had to work on a laptop this morning with only one functional USB port. Not enough, in my world. I did the usual round of remove/find in the control panel, but there was no change. I offered to reformat and reinstall the OS for the client, but that did not incite joy (or POS). People get so attached to their machines. Interruption (like the time I’d need to reinstall) is not on the “most wanted” list.

I haven’t seen the double decker yet, but son #1 sent me an SMS to point out that he was aboard and had filed his annual income tax return using the free wi-fi. That old line about “an apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”: true. He may be as much of a nerd as the old fella. That’s good. I guess.

Trying to get an idea for my first “peer judged assignment”. I’m far removed from doing homework (more than three decades) so this is going to require more than a great flash of insight. I have to do it and submit it, before a fast approaching deadline. I have one possible out: the instructor included “blog” on the list of acceptable formats, and that one is familiar.
