Several weeks ago, the news carried a strange story. A particular train transited the border, over and over and over again. Same cargo, same two endpoints, no unloading. A veritable win situation for the rail line, but curious to the rest of us. Now the explanation is out. There are tariffs, and subsidies involved in certain trade situations. A set of shrewd (albeit dishonest) individuals noticed a flaw in the set of regulations. If you ship certain things (like biofuels) from one country to another, you can make a lot of money without actually accomplishing anything else. I don’t know how this one will play out, other than forcing a regulatory revision, but it just goes to show that the profit motive is never far from certain minds.

The viral video of the day stars a baby and an eagle. Neither are real, both are now famous.
