My favourite geography book

posted in education |

A newer version of WordPress, with little popups to tell me what I am doing. Just in time for the holidays.

Among things that I knew, but had relegated to the lower sock drawer of the mind: every year, Nova Scotia sends a Christmas tree to Boston. The truck comes back.

Another one of those “bus missed the bus by a minute” days, which meant an extra half hour to get home. And an extra kilometre of “shank’s mare” as my father used to say. I wonder where he learned the expression. Is this a relic of immigration to the Island from somewhere else? Must research this.

Happened to learn, finally, the name of that Grade Four geography book that left me with a very lopsided view of the world away. Visits To Other Lands, by Atwood and Thomas. I could own a second-hand copy, if I wanted to save up about 8 kg of pennies. Plus conversion to digital cash. Plus postage. On second thought, I’ll continue to dig around in used book stores. More fun to “do it yourself”. I’ve also learned that many, many people have fond memories of Simba, Bunga, Netsook and friends. And I saw that drawing of the interior plan of a yurt. Oh, the memories!

Watching the holiday special of 22 Minutes, complete with vignettes from provincial premiers. I have a suspicion that Pauline will be MIA (her love of English/the English doesn’t extend to satire).

It seems that Storage Wars is rigged. Or seeded. Or an alternate reality show.
