Back during the last federal election campaign (oh, how long ago it seems), certain promises were made. Among them, tax relief based on budget projections. Or, as a parent tells the inquiring child, “We’ll see, next pay day… if there’s enough money”. The latest predictions from the guy with the purse strings is that the deficit will continue, and by extension…
Meanwhile, the household debt load in Canada is growing, and at a faster rate than forecast. Could there be a causal relationship here? You know, between not having any new money while the party in power continues to spend and grow the national debt. Just wondering.
Somewhere out on the left coast, an oil truck rolled up to a house and pumped several hundred gallons of fuel oil into the tank standpipe. Oops. Wrong address, decommissioned oil tank, a horrendous bill to put things back to right. Involved tearing down the house. Now, the oil company has insurance, but this one more reason to plan on that nifty geothermal system in the next house. Don’t need no stinking fuel oil, thank you very much.
I’m a history buff, at least when it comes to local history. For the past few weeks, people have been posting “old” pictures from ‘town on FB, and although some predate (even) me, it is fun to do the mental then and now game. A look back to a gentler time, when everything didn’t resemble strip malls. When shopping took place, downtown in ‘town. When stores didn’t try to stay open 24/7, just in case there was one more customer out there.
