Seriously warning about the weather
I was having too much fun, so the TV remote was confiscated. A surfeit of mirth.
There’s some heavy weather in the US right now. Big time, big city weather. Now, those that are in the middle of a storm are probably praying for improved conditions. Those that aren’t, and have a TV station to run, improvise. That’s why the remote was confiscated.
Upstate VT on the TV. First, TBBT got scrunched by school closure updates. Little matter that school is already closed for the day. Then, as the situation worsened, a shift to emergency-based programming. The full new crew on duty, showing us images of the tree in the parking lot that was moving in the wind. An interview with the staff at one of the two emergency shelters: kits are being prepared, with a bucket and sponge, because the state has suffered disastrous flooding in the past, and they want people to be prepared. A warning by the weather girl to “avoid being deceived by the relative lack of wind outside. Their viewing area wouldn’t have sustained hurricane winds, but all it takes is a single gust to blow a branch from a tree!” Again, preparedness.
A further update on wind speeds in the area. At the top of Mt. Washington, winds had been recorded at 134 mph (I’m going to leave the km equivalent to a math whiz). Just for the record, Mt. Washington is ALWAYS windy! They have bumper stickers about that.
Yes, things will probably get worse overnight. How else to explain the warning by MY municipal spokesperson on MY local news… “Avoid leaving things around outside, that might get blown away in heavy gusts of wind!” The fear is spreading.
