Missed concerts give my sad face a workout

posted in ham radio, music |

Wish I paid more attention to the various “show notices” around town. Due to getting the news too late, I’m missing a concert by Tim Chaisson, only minutes away. There: requisite sad face.

Actually, it was while setting up a video conference this afternoon that the news of famous musicians on my turf came in. One of our local principals was in brag mode about his new recording studio, with the ribbon chop performed by Tim, today. What? Why wasn’t there a general bulletin? Or a holiday for Islanders in the area? OK, chalk that one up to experience. But, the word that there was a concert this evening, with Colin James… Life doesn’t play fair. Sorry Tim; maybe next summer in Souris. Where you come with the home team advantage AND some advance press.

Given that the dog and I were in charge of the house this evening, I cranked up the Celtic channel on Galaxy and started part two of my SDR project. With a lot more confidence, I might add. Right now, the first few sections of the board are populated. I’ve powered down until I find some emery cloth, the better to strip enamel on the toroids (that I have to wind). Learned the hard way that getting a good connection is difficult if you don’t get rid of every bit of the stuff (on the leads, of course). I might have a piece in one of those tire patch kits down in the basement. If not, the hardware store is due for a visit anyways. Time to close the pool, so I need some of the specific styrofoam things that keep the strainer inlet free of  accumulated ice.
