Radio with a view
Permit me to perform a “happy dance”. The SDR project was tested this afternoon, and it worked! I now have a SoftRock Lite II Combined Receiver Kit, constructed according to plan and functional on 40 meters. For those of you who believe that a radio comes installed in your car or home cinema, take it from me that there are still people who like to start from scratch. When it works, your new radio becomes YOUR new radio, and the emphasis is deserved.
Given that the others were away, I decided to attack another long standing project. Sorting out the drawers full of T-shirts and polos that have been “in hiding” for awhile. Don’t laugh, but one is clearly marked “Frosh 73” (a souvenir of the year I first got involved in student activities at the university). I was a snotty sophomore by then, and have evidence that I was a smaller man.
Now that my second load of laundry is dried, I’m going to have to make some hard choices. What will I throw, and what will remain in my personal wardrobe? What will I allow to pass into the “priceless souvenir” category?
This was a holiday weekend, and filled with expectation. Others were looking forward to a real sit down supper, on a cleared dining room table. I came through. Two chickens, in case company appeared, vegetables and spuds, gravy in a cool dish reminiscent of Aladdin. We were three, but we were family. And now that the dishes are done and the rest of the food stored for a later point in the week, I’m going to call it a day. Back to routine in less than twelve hours.
