Testing the shallow waters of SMT
Our curtain saga draws to a close. After a sprint last evening to finish the window for son #3 (daylight has interfered with his sleep pattern), I took the leap of faith and hung a spare vertical blind over the basement opening. Now, I can feign evening time at almost any moment of the day, in almost any room.
I’ve had a project sitting on my bench for a couple of weeks now, and today I decided to go for it. My initiation into SMT (surface-mount technology), and on a shoestring budget to boot. Bits of silicon and substrate, almost too small for me to cope. Think of labels designed for the microscope generation. I did purchase a very small tip for my soldering iron, and a small tube of paste that made things much simpler, once I got the technique under my thumb. This was my first effort, so I’ll learn in a couple of days if the little project board goes beyond “sampler” into something much neater.
We were ready to try something fast for supper, so I ordered takeout via the ‘net. Nothing fancy; chicken and salad, but the price was calculated before the delivery car arrived, and the order was spot-on for accuracy. Even received an email confirmation, letting me know about what time supper would be ready. I think I’ll do this again.
Had a series of text messages from one of my sisters, wondering how to get in touch with a “not seen for a long time” cousin. I wish I (and you can capitalize that) was down in Cape Breton, wandering around visiting relatives and looking for a Celtic Colours concert or two. Jealousy is a sin. It’s also perfectly natural. Why can’t I go on the road trip?
