An alternative to window washing
I missed all the action. While I was away for the day, some elves came and changed all the windows and doors. I’m saying elves, for lack of a synonym. Without any trace of real human intervention (other than subvocal ramblings by son #3 about how cold it was), the twenty-six years of wear and grime were whisked away, leaving new and shiny in their place. I’m happy.
There are still details. I did make a trip to the local hardware store to purchase a doorbell button and some new keys for the front door. The curtains and vertical blinds don’t fit; I have the choice of getting out the hacksaw and sharp knife, or returning to the “store store” (a French-English mashup). My gut feeling is that I’m not getting out of this one cheaply, but for tonight I’m going to sleep behind the shade of a mature linden tree. Please, let the winds stay down for a few days more.
The house doesn’t feel any bigger. Just, better. More apt to please a potential new owner, whenever.
Had to drive son #2 home (to his new digs) after he blew out a bicycle tire. I still think I have a spare or two around here, but I refused to forget my hunger pangs to search. As it turned out, I needed to go grocery shopping anyhow, so getting out of the house wasn’t wasted effort. Now I can carry something richer in nutrition than a Thermos of coffee when next I go to the office. Tomorrow, as it happens.
