Random maps
Finally, something new in my life. Specifically, trying to figure out why the phone just rang.
The cellphone. Or smartphone. Distinct from the tried and trusted landline phone which only rings when someone wants to talk to someone. The new device doesn’t follow that one simple rule. Instead, it rings and throbs and wriggles for things that I didn’t realize were noteworthy. Lunar phase changes. A message from Hotmail that my password is lost and irretrievable. The update that there may be wifi within range. I can’t tell about other things, because the phone doesn’t ring to announce callers. Maybe, some day.
This has been a “down time day”. No need to leave the house. No need to go anywhere else. I’ll go back to work, rested, unless the night has something special in store. I watched some “summer movies”. I ate some funny crackers loaded with blueberries. I convinced the dog to go outside, since the rain stopped hours ago.
The wiser guys at Apple have decided to ditch the maps from Google and handroll their own (some dispute that leaves the rest of us wondering about early onset of corporate insanity). Son #1 pointed out that the old way of doing things was serviceable – he could actually get transit info when he needed it. In the new way of doing things, we won’t know for months whether things are changing places randomly. Not good. I’m going to stay with memorizing my way back home, until the dust settles. Paper, folded, anyone?
