A busy night and day after

posted in politics |

We’ve had a busy 24 hours, here in the province. Who would have guessed that we’d change the governance (actually, almost everyone) into a minority led by a woman (almost nobody) who would then survive what may have been an attempted assassination. Following a restless night, the current (until tomorrow) prime minister (who lost his seat in the election) has decided to resign, after two decades of public life (actually, he still has a few more days of good food and a chauffered car ahead). As I said, a busy time.

I’m back in my regular seat, and this evening had Billy Connolly take me on a rapid tour of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Yes, I want to go back. His visit to St. Anthony hit the same highlights as mine, although he didn’t have as much training in the rudiments of smelting iron. He still had fun.

At work, I learned that letting other people put stuff away means a day of searching, for me. Be it locking cables or laptops, there are many corners where stuff can be stowed, “out of sight and out of mind”. I also learned that something called a .MHT file is not worth a tinker’s dam once you leave the original server behind. Javascript isn’t fully transportable. Maybe I’ll reread this passage, years from now, and laugh about how things like this actually mattered.

The bus system is full again. Schools are open and the trip home was one where you hoped we’d avoid potholes. Kids bounce. And they don’t like it any more than the old folk (who get on first and score all the easy seats).
